COCO KIMMIE was born and raised in New Jersey and started singing as a young child in the church. She learned to play the piano by ear and was trained to play classical music as an adolescent. She was exposed to several genres of music as her mom loved Gospel music & James Brown and her dad loved Blues & Country music. COCO KIMMIE was also heavily influenced by R&B and Hip Hop and grew up listening to the sounds of Whitney Houston, New Edition, Al B. Sure, De La Soul, Biggie, Tupac, Salt N Pepa, Zhane, Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott & Erykah Badu. When she attended college at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, she sang in the USAFA Cadet Gospel choir and recorded her first CD.
COCO KIMMIE had many interests growing up from singing, flying airplanes, astronomy to cosmetology & chose to pursue a career in Space Operations where she launched rockets and satellites into space. Throughout her 21+ years in the military, she was requested to sing in military ceremonies around the world. And, she continued her singing career by performing at military promotions & retirements and change of command ceremonies for dignitaries & commanders at the highest levels.
In 2015, COCO KIMMIE retired from the Air Force and was inspired to sing again in 2019 by her daughter who asked why she didn't become a professional singer. When she told her daughter she didn't think she was good enough, she was shocked by her own words because it went against everything she was teaching her children. Deep down she wasn’t sure she had what it took to sing professionally and sell records but always believed you can do anything you put your mind to. Throughout her military career, she held onto the mantra that "Success is when opportunity meets preparation." So, she set her sights on a creative journey in the music industry.
She began singing with the Chocolate Factory Band in April 2019 and performed at The Sunset Room National Harbor in Maryland and private parties throughout DC, MD, and VA. That same year, she began to fine-tune her multi-octave vocal range by training with internationally renowned vocalist & violinist, Tona Brown Founder & CEO of Aida Studios. In Feb 2020, COCO KIMMIE began singing with the R&B band N2N and performed at Maryland Live Casino & Hotel and was featured on “Fridays at the Fountain Live” at the National Landing (Pentagon City/Crystal City) & Maryland's Summertime Virtual Concert Series. Once the Covid global pandemic hit the US & performance venues shut down, COCO KIMMIE joined MUNIVERSITY Studies and studied songwriting, freedom songs, sound healing, DAW operations & artist development with Grammy-nominated artist, Mumufresh, and gained notoriety from her special feature in the 1st ever MUNIVERSITY US Songwriter’s showcase.
